Read To Success at the Arcadia School District
How does it work? United Way is currently looking for community volunteers to spend time with students in the third grade.
  • The volunteers are a steady, adult presence in the students’ lives and they help strengthen reading skills and an appreciation of books and reading.
  • The volunteers spend half an hour to an hour a school each week, working half an hour each with one or two students.
  • The student and tutor may take turns reading aloud and the two discuss certain aspects of the book, like “what do you think will happen next?”
  • The student selects a book from the classroom and United Way provides an activity bin with questions and games.
The reading times at Arcadia Elementary School are from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Volunteers can choose any day but Wednesday for their regular day. The program starts in mid October, with a break over Christmas (and any other school holidays) and concludes sometime in May.

To find out more, go to www.gruw.org or contact Julie Nelson at [email protected] or 608-796-1400.
