The Franciscan Skemp Foundation has selected Ann Nelson and will present  her with the Cornerstone of Service Award.

Another part of the program will be entertainment for your listening pleasure by Top Brass, a brass quintet which includes Chris Gleason, formerly of Arcadia.

Greetings…

You may be noticing that this newsletter is coming to you several weeks ahead of schedule. There is a “method to my madness” with it.

The Annual Meeting

My Vacation

First of all, I would like to remind anyone who has not sent in their reservation or contacted me for tickets for the Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet to do so right away. We look forward to having a large crowd for the meeting.

The Chamber office will be closed from February 11th until February 26th. The Chamber answering machine will be forwarded to City Hall as Angela Berg has graciously agreed to send out brochures, etc. while I am away. Thank you, Angela and staff, for helping me out with this.

I met with the AgDay Committee recently. Here is another good example of how well committees within our Chamber work. I’m very impressed with the way they take this event and fly with it. We have a great number of talented people in our community who are able to conquer any task. It certainly makes my job a lot easier when I know who to look to for answers.

On another note, I’d like to thank Lisa Wolfe from the Arcadia Credit Union, for coming forth to chair the Special Events/Programs committee. We are lucky to have people like Lisa within our Chamber.

Our community will be given another honor this June with the “Moving Wall” coming to Arcadia. This mobile monument to the men and women who served and died in the Viet Nam War is the results of a Viet Nam vet who wanted to give back to the people who he saw sacrifice their lives for us. We ask that you help us get the word out with regards to the Wall being on display from June 2-8th in Memorial Park. For more info on the Wall, go to www.themovingwall.org.

“Agriculture Touches Everyone

The Ag Day Committee has been working on plans for the upcoming Ag Day Celebration, which will be held at Noon on Wednesday, March 20th in the Holy Family Parish Basement. The Agday Committee will be contacting businesses for sponsorship of this event. The event is a “once a year recognition” of the area farm families who add so much to our community.
